A Glimpse into the Religion of Islam

The Noble Quran

The Quran is the holy book read by Muslims. It is believed to be the word of God and the final revelation sent to Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) over 1,400 years ago in the Arabic language.

  • Not a single letter has been altered, added, or removed
  • There is only one version worldwide
  • A Quran in China is identical to one in South America

Core Themes of the Quran

  1. Oneness of Allah and matters of belief
  2. Commanding good and forbidding evil
  3. Stories of creation and prophets, including the Afterlife

The Quran has been translated into many languages. One of the most widely distributed English translations is The Noble Quran by Dr. Hilali and Muhsin Khan.

The Beliefs of a Muslim (Six Pillars of Faith)

1. Belief in Allah

Muslims believe in one, incomparable God who created and controls everything. He has no partners, family, or equals, and only He deserves worship.

2. Belief in the Angels

Angels are unseen beings created by Allah who obey Him completely. They carry out various duties, such as delivering revelation and managing aspects of the world.

3. Belief in the Books

Allah revealed scriptures to His messengers, including:

  • The Torah (Moses)
  • The Psalms (David)
  • The Gospel (Jesus)
  • The Quran (Muhammad ﷺ)

The Quran is the only preserved and unchanged scripture.

4. Belief in the Prophets

Muslims believe in many prophets, including Noah, Abraham, Moses, and Jesus. Muhammad (peace be upon him) is the final prophet.

5. Belief in the Day of Judgment

All people will be resurrected and held accountable for their actions. The righteous will enter Paradise, while others will face punishment.

6. Belief in Divine Decree

Everything happens according to the will and knowledge of Allah.

The Five Pillars of Islam

1. Declaration of Faith (Shahada)

“I bear witness that none has the right to be worshipped except Allah, and Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah.”

2. Prayer (Salat)

Muslims pray five times daily, maintaining a direct connection with God.

3. Charity (Zakat)

A yearly charity of 2.5% of savings given to those in need.

4. Fasting (Ramadan)

Abstaining from food, drink, and desires from dawn to sunset to build discipline and compassion.

5. Pilgrimage (Hajj)

A journey to Mecca performed once in a lifetime if able.

The Merits of Islam

Islam promotes strong moral and ethical values, including:

  • Honoring parents
  • Kindness to spouses and women
  • Respect for diversity
  • Racial equality
  • Care for the elderly, widows, and neighbors
  • Compassion toward animals
  • Fairness in business
  • Respect for the deceased

Islam also encourages:

  • Truthfulness
  • Humility
  • Patience

The Correct Religion

There are thousands of religions in the world, yet only one Creator.

Islam teaches that:

  • Worship must be directed to God alone
  • No partners, intermediaries, or created beings should be worshipped

Many belief systems involve idols, saints, or multiple gods. Islam differs by calling for pure monotheism—worship of the Creator alone.

How to Embrace Islam

To become a Muslim, say sincerely:

“I bear witness that none has the right to be worshipped except Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah.”
